Income certificate for scholarships: which limit applies to which scheme

Scholarship schemes set their own income ceilings, but they all read the same certificate. How to time the application so the certificate is in hand when the portal opens.

So there is nothing to tailor: get the correct figure certified, and let each scheme apply its own test.

Timing is the whole problem

Scholarship portals open for a fixed window, usually a few weeks, and they ask for a certificate for the current financial year. Applying for the certificate after the window opens is cutting it fine: issuance takes 7-10 working days, and the Tehsil is busiest in exactly that period.

The order that works. Apply for the income certificate at the start of the financial year, before the scholarship portal opens. Then the certificate number is ready to enter on the day the form goes live.

What the portal asks for

• The certificate number and date of issue, entered exactly as printed.
• A scan of the certificate, within the portal's size limit.
• A caste certificate as well, for a category scholarship.
• Bank details in the applicant's own name. A parent's account is a frequent rejection.

If the figure changes

A household whose income has fallen since the last certificate should apply for a fresh one rather than submitting the old figure and explaining. The certificate is the evidence; a covering note is not.
