What a UP certificate actually costs: fees, and what you should not be paying

The statutory fee is small. Everything above it is a service charge, and it should be stated before you pay. What the fee covers, and what nobody is entitled to charge you.

The statutory fee

Every certificate service on the e-District portal has a fixed statutory fee, and it is nominal: a small charge paid online at the point of submission. It is set by the department, is the same in every district, and is shown on the portal before payment. There is no premium tier and no way to pay for faster processing.

What a service fee covers

A service fee is what you pay someone to do the filing: assembling the documents, checking them against the requirements for that service, filing the application, following the file through verification and delivering the result. It is a real service and it is legitimately chargeable, but it should be one stated figure with the tax on it, quoted before you commit.

What we charge. Guidance is free. When you apply, you see the fee for each certificate and the GST on that fee before you pay, and nothing is added afterwards. Domicile, Income and Caste are ₹500 each; EWS is ₹1,500.

What you should not be paying

• A payment to an official for a faster field visit or an approval, no such fee exists.
• A charge that appears only after the application has been filed.
• A per-document or per-upload charge on top of a quoted service fee.
• A fee for a status check on your own application, which you can do yourself for free.

Ask for the invoice

A legitimate service issues a GST invoice in the name on the order. If an invoice is refused, that tells you what the payment is.
