Where the parents belong to different communities, the father's community is what is certified. The practice is settled, and applications filed on the mother's community are usually queried.

What to attach

• The father's caste certificate, or a school record of his carrying the community.
• The child's birth certificate, showing the parents' names.
• The family's Aadhaar and address proof for the UP address.
• A school record for the child, where one already exists. Apply before the admission, not during it. School and scholarship deadlines cluster, and so do Tehsil queues. A certificate applied for a term ahead costs the same as one applied for in a rush, and is permanent once issued.

If the father holds no certificate

Then the application establishes the community from scratch: a grandfather's record, an old school entry, or a local enquiry. It takes longer, and it is worth doing once for the whole family rather than repeatedly for each child. Consider applying for the father's certificate first and the children's on the strength of it.

It does not expire

Once issued, a caste certificate serves the child for life. Keep the digital copy safe. A lost certificate means a fresh application, not a reprint.
