What strengthens a declaration

• Khatauni or land records, where the household farms. The holding is how agricultural income is assessed.
• A ration card, which carries the household composition the figure relates to.
• A bank passbook showing the pattern of credits, where one exists.
• A certificate from the employer for wage work, even informal, where the employer will give one.

Say what the work is. A declaration that states an occupation, where it is carried on and roughly what it yields is verified faster than a bare figure. The field officer is being asked to confirm plausibility, and detail is what makes a figure plausible.

Declare a figure you can stand behind

The temptation is to declare a low figure to clear a scheme threshold. The field report tests the declaration against what the officer sees (the house, the holding, the occupation) and a figure that does not fit is queried or refused. A rejection on those grounds is not refundable and costs a cycle.

If the household has no income at all

A nil or near-nil income can be certified. State it plainly and evidence the circumstances (the loss of an earning member, or a household living on a pension) rather than leaving the field blank.
