What it is

Proof of your family's total annual income from all sources. The figure on the certificate is your whole family's income, not just yours. Every earning member counts, and the department checks it against the declaration and proof you file.

Across Uttar Pradesh the same document is asked for as an aay praman patra or a family income certificate. The name changes; the certificate and the Tehsil that issues it do not.

Who can apply

  • Any resident of Uttar Pradesh applying for an income-linked benefit
  • Students applying for scholarships or fee waivers
  • Applicants for schemes with an income ceiling

What the Tehsil checks

A field report confirms the income you declared. A household with salary slips or Form 16 usually clears quickly, while a self-declared income gets a closer look.

How it works

  1. 1Confirm eligibility

We check your situation against the current departmental rules before you spend time on the form.

  2. 2Upload your documents

Once, from your phone or computer, or pulled straight from DigiLocker.

  3. 3We verify and file

Every field and document is checked, then a field agent files the application with the department.

  4. 4Track to delivery

Live status on every stage, and a verified digital copy by email once the department approves it.

Apply for Income Certificate by district

The fee, the documents and the departmental rules are the same everywhere in Uttar Pradesh. Your district only decides which Tehsil verifies the application.

Apply for Income Certificate by division

Uttar Pradesh’s 75 districts sit under 18 divisions. Each one lists the districts inside it.

How long an Income Certificate takes in Uttar Pradesh

  1. 0–7 days Filed and under review

We file it on the UP e-District portal, with every field checked first so nothing comes back.

  2. 8–15 days Tehsildar verification

A Lekhpal checks your address on the ground, then the Uttar Pradesh Tehsildar signs it.

  3. 15–20 days Certificate issued

The digital copy reaches your account, and the printed one is posted to Uttar Pradesh.

  4. Beyond 20 days Escalated for you

If it stalls, we chase the Tehsil ourselves and tell you exactly what it is waiting on.

Working days, counted from a complete filing. The processing time is the department’s own and is not a delivery commitment.

The most common rejection

The figure you declare is one you are legally responsible for. A number lowered to clear a scheme threshold, then contradicted by a payslip or a return, gets the application refused, and a refusal on those grounds is not refundable.

Tips for faster approval in Uttar Pradesh

Six things that decide whether a file moves or comes back.

  1. Match every spelling to Aadhaar

The name, the father's name and the address have to read identically on every document you upload. A mismatch between the Aadhaar spelling and the ration card sends more applications back from the Uttar Pradesh Tehsil than any other single reason.

  2. File one address, not two

Whatever address the form carries is the one the Lekhpal verifies in Uttar Pradesh. If your documents show two, file with the one your residence proof carries and leave the other out.

  3. Scan the whole page, in daylight

A photo with a corner cut off or a shadow across the seal is rejected at the document stage, before the file reaches the department at all. JPG, PNG or PDF, up to 2 MB each.

  4. Answer the verification call

The Lekhpal calls the number on the form before the field visit in Uttar Pradesh. An unreachable number is the commonest reason a complete, correct file simply sits still.

  5. Get the Parshad signature first

The form has to be signed and stamped by the ward councillor for your address in Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the few steps that still happens on paper, and it is easier to collect before the file is open than after.

  6. Submit on a working day

The department counts working days. A file submitted on a Friday evening effectively starts on Monday, which is two days of the estimate spent before anyone has opened it.

Common questions about the Income Certificate

It's the one document that proves your family's total annual income to a government department or institution. Almost every scheme with an income limit (scholarships, fee reimbursement, pensions, housing, marriage grants) asks for it instead of taking your word for it.

In UP the biggest uses are the state scholarship and fee reimbursement portal (Chhatravritti / Shulk Pratipurti) for classes 9 to post-graduate, RTE 25% free-seat admissions in private schools, education loan interest subsidy, Kanya Sumangala Yojana, Shadi Anudaan, old-age and widow pension applications, PM Awas eligibility checks, and EWS certificate applications, which require an income certificate as input.

Ceilings differ by scheme and change over time, so check the current notice, but as a guide: UP post-matric scholarship for general and OBC students uses a ₹2 lakh family income limit and for SC/ST ₹2.5 lakh; Kanya Sumangala uses ₹3 lakh; Shadi Anudaan uses roughly ₹46,000 rural and ₹56,000 urban; the EWS ceiling is ₹8 lakh. Your certificate states the actual figure; the scheme decides whether it qualifies.

The whole family's, from all sources: salary, business, agriculture, rent, pension, interest. 'Family' means the applicant, parents, spouse, and unmarried siblings or children living together. Leaving out an earning member is the most common reason a scholarship gets flagged later during verification, so declare everyone.

The self-declaration is the primary document for informal income; the Lekhpal verifies it against what he sees and what the councillor or Pradhan attests. Attach what exists: a bank passbook, a shop registration, a kisan card, or the employer's letter. For a salaried member, a salary slip or Form 16 is expected. Declaring realistically is important: an implausibly low figure invites a rejection or a higher figure being recorded.

The certificate itself carries an issue date rather than an expiry. In practice, UP scholarship portals and most colleges want one issued in the current financial year, and some departments accept it for up to 3 years. Our advice: apply for it in the same year you'll use it.

There is no fixed time: most of it is the Tehsil's own verification, and its pace varies. Our fee is ₹499, including 18% GST and the government's e-District charge. There is nothing to pay at the Tehsil.

Applicant's Aadhaar (both sides), a passport-size photo, an address proof (electricity bill, ration card or voter ID), income proof for earning members where it exists (salary slip, Form 16, ITR, bank passbook), and the self-declaration we generate. Ward councillor or Gram Pradhan attestation is arranged by our agent.

No. UP portals verify the certificate against the UP e-District database using its number, so it must be issued by a UP Tehsil. The same is true the other way round.

The Tehsil records it for the certificate only; there is no automatic sharing with the Income Tax department. But a certificate showing income far below what your ITR shows can be treated as a false declaration if a scheme cross-checks, so keep the figures consistent.

Every certificate issued through the UP e-District portal carries an Application Number and a Certificate ID, and prints a QR code. Open edistrict.up.gov.in, choose the certificate verification option, enter those two numbers, and the portal shows the issued certificate. Anyone who asks you for the document, whether a college, an employer or a bank, can check it the same way. The Income Certificate CertiSetu files for you is issued by the department itself, so it verifies exactly like one filed at the counter.

No. The documents listed on this page are what the application asks for, and Family ID is not among them. Family ID (Ek Parivar Ek Pahchan) is a separate Uttar Pradesh household identifier issued at familyid.up.gov.in; if your household already has a ration card, that ration card number serves as your Family ID. Several UP schemes ask for the Family ID and the certificate together, which is why the two get confused.
